Review of the Motorola One Hyper Smartphone

What are the Best Features of This Cool Smartphone?

Motorola One Hyperion is a cool smartphone that has a lot of features.

It has a lot of cool features that will make your life much easier. One Hyper has the best display screen, which is full-HD and HDR.

It also has 4GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, and 128GB storage.

This phone will be perfect for parents who want their baby’s first mobile device to be safe from harm!

How Does Motorola’s One Hyper Compare to Other Phones’ Features?

Motorola introduced its One Hyper to the market in November. The One Hyper has many features that make it unique compared to other phones. Let’s compare these features with other phones and see how it fares.

The Motorola One Hyper is not too much a phone with many features, but it also has a few flaws that could be found in cheaper options like the iPhone XR or Google Pixel 3a XL.

For example, its screen is not as big as some higher-end phones, and it doesn’t support wireless charging.

Although this phone has some flaws, overall, it may be worth the price for many users who don’t need wireless charging or a huge screen size.

We purchased the Motorola One Hyper so that our expert reviewer could put it through its paces and evaluate it thoroughly. Please continue reading for our in-depth product review.

While smartphone manufacturers have traded thick bezels around screens for notches and camera cutouts with punch-holes in recent years, there is another way to minimize bezel and maximize screen real estate: edge-to-edge displays.

Selfie cameras with motorized pop-ups were first introduced in Asia, and they made their way to the United States with the excellent OnePlus 7 Pro in 2019.

This phone offers users a large, pristine screen while only raising the front-facing camera from the top of the phone when necessary.

Now, thanks to the Motorola One Hyper, you can get the same kind of experience from a mid-range phone.

The Motorola One Hyper takes the flagship design philosophy and applies it to a $400 handset.

To be sure, the Motorola One Hyper does not have the same high-end appearance or feel like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Still, thanks to its flashy back panel colours and the unique hook of the pop-up camera, it succeeds in providing that distinctive allure at a more affordable price.

I put the Motorola One Hyper through its paces for more than a week, using it as an everyday phone, a mobile camera, and other applications.

Design: It is unquestionably eye-catching.

It’s no secret that Motorola has released several different smartphones in recent months.

Still, the Motorola One Hyper stands out from the rest of the pack for several reasons, none of which are related to its pop-up camera.

To be sure, that kind of design decision lends the One Hyper a distinctive appearance from the front area, with a large and unencumbered screen that isn’t diminished by any notch or hole in the middle.

Even though there is a small amount of bezel at the top and a small amount more at the bottom, the screen dominates the device’s front. It has a pleasantly pleasing effect.

As the name “Hyper” implies, Motorola made a compelling decision to forego a more subdued aesthetic with this handset.

If you turn the One Hyper around to the back, you’ll be greeted with a riot of colour, whether you choose Deep Sea Blue, Fresh Orchid, or the Dark Amber model shown here.

It is always my goal to avoid plain-looking phone colours whenever possible, and the Motorola One Hyper provided me with three eye-catching colour options to choose from.

The Dark Amber version, in particular, stands out because it is unlike any other phone I’ve ever held in my hands.

In particular, the Dark Amber version stands out as being unlike any other phone I’ve ever held in my hands.

Not only that but there’s more. When you look at the back of the phone, you’ll notice a distinct visual pattern that extends from below the Motorola logo to the top of the dual-camera module, which is a bit larger than usual to accommodate the pop-up camera mechanism.

Along with that, there’s a responsive fingerprint sensor right where your index finger would naturally land, as well as an appropriately placed LED notification light ring around it.

Keep in mind that the phone is quite large at 6.37 by 3.02 by 0.35 inches, which is largely due to the large 6.5-inch screen, and that it is also quite heavy at 7.1 ounces.

Because of the plastic backing and frame, the Motorola One Hyper does not have a premium appeal in terms of build quality,

and the backing is prone to picking up dust, scratches, and smudges with ease—although you can protect the phone with the included translucent case if you desire.

Regardless, it’s a cool look. Even though Motorola claims that the One Hyper has a “water-repellent design,” we wouldn’t take the risk of submerging it in a puddle or bath with it.

Because of the plastic backing and frame, the Motorola One Hyper does not have a premium appeal or feel in terms of build quality, and the backing is prone to picking up dust, scratches, and smudges with relative ease.

The moment you open the camera app and switch to the front-facing camera, the pop-up camera smoothly extends from bottom to top of the phone, where it remains until the phone is closed.

The Motorola One Hyper, like the OnePlus 7 Pro, relies on motion sensors to automatically disengage the camera from the phone if it drops while it is in operation. That’s a good idea.

The Motorola One Hyper comes with 128GB of internal storage, and you can expand that storage by inserting a microSD card of up to 1TB in size if you need to store even more data.

Like many mid-range phones, the One Hyper defies the recent flagship fashion by keeping its 3.5mm headphone jack in the box. There are no dongles required here.

Setup is the same as it has always been.

There isn’t anything particularly noteworthy or difficult in the Motorola One Hyper’s setup procedure.

It is the same as any other Android 10 OS device currently available for purchase. To get started, follow the on-screen prompts,

including creating a Google account, connecting to a network, and deciding whether or not to restore from a phone backup and transfer data from another phone. Please, you should be good to go in about 10 minutes at the most.

Performance: Just enough muscle to get the job done.

Given the high price of the Motorola One Hyper, it should be no surprise that the device is equipped with a mid-range processor.

When combined with 4GB of RAM, the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chip here can keep Android 10 running fairly smoothly for the majority of the time.

This is the same chip found in the recently released Motorola One Zoom.

Even though I noticed some minor animation stutters when switching apps or interacting with certain parts of the UI, getting around Android and using apps never slowed down.

The Motorola One Hyper scored 7,285 on PCMark’s Work 2.0 benchmark test, which is close to the 7,478 achieved by the One Zoom and the 7,413 achieved by Google Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL, respectively.

The Snapdragon 675 is used in the Pixel 3a phones, which performs similarly to the Snapdragon 675.

The gaming performance here isn’t spectacular, but it’s better than what you’d get from the One Zoom.

Asphalt 9: Legends, a fast and furious arcade racer, performed admirably, but it wasn’t as smooth as it is on flagship phones, and there were occasional hiccups in performance.

And on the other hand, the Call of Duty Mobile phone has successfully scaled down its graphics settings to remain relatively smooth on the Hyper.

GFXBench recorded 7.9 frames per second (fps) in the Car Chase benchmark and 39 frames per second (fps) in the T-Rex benchmark, which are both very close to the results obtained by the Zoom (but behind the Pixel 3a models).

GSM is the only mode of communication available.

Motorola sells the One Hyper unlocked, but it is only compatible with GSM networks such as those operated by AT&T and T-Mobile.

For that reason, you will be unable to use it with Verizon or Sprint, which both operate CDMA networks.

I experienced download speeds ranging from 14-46Mbps and upload speeds ranging from 6-19Mbps on AT&T’s 4G LTE network just north of Chicago, and the network’s connectivity was always fast.

The One Hyper can also connect to Wi-Fi networks operating at 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.

Display Quality: There is only one large screen.

The Motorola One Hyper’s 6.5-inch display is quite impressive in terms of screen size.

It’s quite large at 6.5 inches — and, as previously stated, there’s no notch or camera cutout — and very crisp at 2340×1080 resolution (395 pixels per inch).

An LCD panel does not have the same level of richness in contrast and deep black levels as an OLED screen (as found in the One Zoom), nor does it have HDR support, which is found on higher-end phones.

Despite this, for a screen this large on the phone at this price, it is solidly bright and close to the best you can get right now in terms of picture quality.

The sound quality is mono, but it is adequate.

The Motorola One Hyper, like the Motorola One Zoom, is equipped with a single mono speaker located on the bottom of the phone.

Despite this, it does a good job of producing loud and reasonably clear sound, albeit not as full as the sound produced by stereo speakers on some other phones, for the price.

Camera/Video Quality: Excellent selfies, but mixed results elsewhere.

The Motorola One Hyper’s selfie camera is the most intriguing bunch, owing to its unique design. Fortunately, the 32-megapixel front-facing camera captures crisp, detailed images.

Are you a great fan of taking selfie pictures? The One Hyper has a consistent record of nailing them.

Alternatively, the camera quality is more in line with what we would expect from a phone in this price range.

The dual-camera setup includes a 64-megapixel main sensor that employs quad pixel technology to produce 16-megapixel images and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera on the side.

The main sensor of the One Hyper captures images that are reasonably detailed and well-judged in good lighting conditions, but it struggles in low-light and indoor environments.

The Night Mode on the Pixel 3a and other flagship phones is adequate, but it is not up to the standards of the Pixel 3a.

Even though the ultra-wide camera pulls back to allow for more to fit within your frame, you get less detail and softer edges, resulting in less visually appealing images overall.

It can only shoot 1080p footage at 30 frames per second instead of the 1080p/30 frames per second and about 4K/30 frames per second options available with the main camera, so ultra-wide footage tends to look a little confident as well.

The ultra-wide camera is fine for taking photos for social media, but if you want the best results, stick with the main camera instead.

The 32-megapixel front-facing camera captures images that are crisp and detailed. Are you a big fan of taking selfies? The One Hyper has a consistent record of nailing them.

Battery life is long and efficient.

The Motorola One Hyper’s large 4,000mAh battery is designed to last you through a full day of heavy usage, and it may even last you well into a second day with lighter usage.

An average day would see me go to bed with 50 per cent or more of my battery charge remaining, with heavy usage only taking me down to about 40 per cent of my total battery capacity.

While playing 3D games and watching streaming videos can drain the battery quickly, it can still last the whole night without needing to be recharged.

Even though the Motorola One Hyper only comes with a 15W fast charger, it can support wired charging speeds of up to 45W when using a USB Power Delivery 3.0 charging cable.

The price is unquestionably the most competitive in this price range, though you may need to purchase a new USB PD 3.0 charging brick if you don’t already have one on hand to make use of it.

Perfect 10 in terms of software?

The Motorola One Hyper is the company’s first smartphone to ship with Android 10 out of the box, which means you’ll be using the most recent and greatest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

I believe the most significant advantage is improved gesture navigation that is more consistent than what Android 9 had to offer,

making it easier to ditch the old three-button navigation bar and use a more akin system to what Apple has done with its modern iPhones.

And while the Motorola One Hyper isn’t technically a part of the Android One program, unlike some previous Motorola One models,

the Android build on this device is thankfully clean and uncluttered, with no bloatware or unnecessary apps and services to bog down the experience.

Most notable among these are Motorola’s own Moto Actions, which include gesture and motion-based shortcuts and other useful features.

All of this is advantageous, and it is entirely optional as well.

Price: It is exactly what you expect.

The Motorola One Hyper appears to be a fantastic deal even at its full asking price of $400.

It has a striking design, including a pop-up selfie camera, which was only previously seen on a flagship in the United States.

It also has a large and capable screen, solid performance, and long battery life, among other features.

A better main camera is available on Google’s Pixel 3a, but the screen is nearly an inch smaller; or you can opt for the more premium-feeling Motorola One Zoom, which isn’t quite as flashy but has a better main camera.

However, if you’re looking for a $400-ish phone with a large screen and many visual appeals, this is an excellent choice.

Because Motorola has been releasing so many different phones lately, it’s not surprising that the company’s phone prices have been dropping quickly.

For example, the Moto X has already dropped to $340 on Amazon, a significant discount from its previous price of $450 if you can get your hands on it.

Comparison of the Motorola One Hyper and the Motorola One Zoom

For the time being, these are Motorola’s two upper mid-range smartphones. While they both have the same processor and storage capacity and similar-sized screens, there are significant differences between them.

The Motorola One Zoom (view on Amazon) is a camera phone with a lot of versatility, thanks to its four rear cameras, which offer a greater range of options (including a telephoto zoom lens) than the Motorola One Hyper.

It also has a more premium feel to it, thanks to a glass backing instead of glossy plastic.

While the One Zoom’s screen has a small camera notch at the top, unlike the Hyper’s, it is a brighter, punchier OLED panel, making it a better overall experience.

Overall, I prefer the Motorola One Zoom because it has a premium feel, but it is only marginally superior to the other two phones.

And, with Motorola now offering the Zoom for $349 (down from $449), it’s an especially good deal for a capable mid-ranger.
